A Welcoming And Nurturing Community |
Many wonderful people have stepped forward as God has called them with their gifts of time, labor, and love. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the names and faces who lead our church forward and lift them up in thanks.
Jeff CheifetzI grew up in Berkeley, California, and became a Christian and a Presbyterian while at UC Berkeley. The first 21 years of my ministry were in the Pacific Northwest in rural and suburban churches, and the next 15 were back in California with rural and urban transitional churches in three denominations. I am married to a minister who is also a spiritual director. We have two grown children, one who is a minister, and the other who is an artist. As the pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church, my role is to guide this congregation into the next phase of its life.
Our Ruling Elders
Our Ruling Elders are the folk from our congregation, elected by our congregation, who make decisions together as a council ( called the Session) for running our church. It's the hard work of these wonderful people that makes everything run smoothly – from making sure we manage our budget and upkeep our property, to ensuring our weekly pamphlets for Sunday service are updated and logically organized.
Randall GoI grew up in Chinatown and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Chinatown before becoming a member here at Covenant in the mid '90s. My interests include sports, dancing, traveling and watching television.
Harvey LouieI've been an active members since the 1980s, serving in many committees including Finance, Building & Grounds, and as a Deacon and Ruling Elder.
Theresa NorthcuttI grew up in Seattle and have been a life long member of the Presbyterian Church. I have lived in San Francisco for 30 years. I sing in the choir. I also participate in many outdoor recreation activities and love to read and study history.
Sue RaybinI have been a member of this church for about 25 years. I am a retired pediatrician, a wife and mother of 2 adult children, a current student of oil painting and archaeology, a docent at the Academy of Sciences. While I was raised in a fundamentalist protestant home, well-schooled in the Bible, my parents did not attend the same church/denomination. In college I became a searcher with ecumenical attitudes. When raising my own children I chose the Presbyterian church at Taraval and Funston in large part for its tolerance and fellowship. I now participate in our small-but-enthusiastic choir and am also on Session.
Bob SilverI have been attending Covenant for 50+ years and have been a member since 1973. I grew up in the neighborhood, went on many youth mission trips to Colorado and Alaska, and joined the choir in college. I have served several tours as an Elder, Clerk of Session, and also was live–in janitor for some years. I grew up in a family of 4 boys and now am surrounded by women – wife and 3 lovely daughters .
If the Ruling Elders can be viewed as the decision–making head of our church, our Deacons can be viewed as the caring heart of our congregation. These folk are frequently the unsung heros – making sure there is food at our fellowship hour, staying in touch with the needs of our members, celebrating the birthdays of our flock each month, and in general nurturing and helping wherever they can.
May ChungI've been an active members since the 1980s and have served as a Deacon, Ruling Elder, and on many committees including Building & Grounds, MIO, and Finance among others.
Anne JayneI was an army brat that grew up in many places. Jerry and I met at the University of Wyoming and then again at the University of Wisconsin. We were married while we were still students, and came to San Francisco with our two year old son when Jerry graduated and took a job teaching chemistry at San Francisco State. We have two kids, Bill and Beth, both of whom live in the Bay area. When they were in school, I began to teach part time and so am a retired teacher. In Church, I am interested in the uke band, and participate in line dancing, and the TLC parties. I come to the craft/Bible study on Thursday evenings. Being a new deacon, I am trying to follow in the footsteps of others by cooking for Sunday morning fellowship time.
Elvie OwyangI am a transplant from Presbyterian Church in Chinatown. I witnessed the birth of Covenant Presbyterian Church. I worship, pray, study, and attempt to assist fellow Deacons in efforts to provide hospitality and environment for sharing and community.
Our Church Staff
Our Church Staff perform specialized ( and greatly appreciated ) tasks for Covenant Presbyterian. They make our church look nicer, sound sweeter, and work better.
