Ministries at Covenant . . .
Covenant is very thankful and blessed to be able to provide a Food Pantry for the neighborhood every Saturday morning from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM. The Food Pantry provides a variety of different groceries for 70-90 low income residents. Dedicated church members, as well as other caring people, volunteer their time and efforts to serve at the Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is supported by church donations, the local food bank and a grant from FEMA. Volunteers shop weekly at the local food bank, as well as receive donations of food from the food bank. On Saturdays volunteers organize residents who participate and the groceries, and they distribute the groceries. It is a great way not only to serve the community, but also to have fellowship!
Covenant has a To Love and Care (TLC) program for developmentally disabled persons. This program provides a nice lunch/dinner party for developmentally disabled persons every other month. Members volunteer to cook meals and provide fun activities for participants, as well as fellowship with them. It is a great opportunity to share some kindness, caring and love to people challenged by disabilities, and to be greatly blessed by their spirits and lives. This ministry is of great importance, as persons with disabilities often need to be encouraged and reminded of their dignity and value as members of the community.
Covenant actively participates from time to time, in various justice causes. We participate in local, national and international programs, such as the CROP Worldwide Hunger Walk, United Church Women’s Society, and environmental education/awareness activities. The Covenant community, along with many other Presbyterian churches, recognizes the earth as God’s beautiful creation and one of our rich but endangered blessings, and we are trying to become more and more “green!”
